Anne Atkins

Director of Communications
Virginia Department of Veterans Services

Throughout her career in government public relations, Anne has focused on making information accessible to and understandable by the public.  This passion has carried over into her current position in the Virginia Department of Veterans Services.  She also is passionate about advocating for veterans, especially wounded warriors, and their families.

“According to iCasualties, more than 40,000 U.S. military have been wounded in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  And, this number doesn’t include injuries such as PTSD and TBI that are not immediately apparent,” says Anne.  “That’s a lot of veterans who have now joined the ranks of persons with disabilities.  I want to help these men and women have the same advantages in their lives that I’ve been blessed with.”

Although she loves her job working with veterans, Anne is still figuring out what she wants to do when she grows up. Time is running out, however.  Possibilities include storm chaser, wind turbine technician, physicist, dog trainer, or circus performer.
