Session Title: Hiring and Accommodating Veterans with Disabilities

Session Description: Our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are returning everyday from deployment in the Global War on Terror (GWT). Yet, many of them are not returning to their duty assignments instead, they are recovering at various Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) because of injuries they sustained in the GWT. CAP works closely with service members across the nation to ensure they receive appropriate assistive technology for their needs. TecAccess is actively partnering with leading organizations to train disabled veterans. These partners commit to furnishing program funding and high quality jobs for our Nations heroes. Join Megan and Debra as they describe how these nationally acclaimed programs can benefit your company or agency. Learn what these wounded service members are experiencing as they transition into civilian careers. These trained and skilled veterans will be a valuable asset in the civilian workforce.

Session Title: The LEAD (Leadership for the Employment of Americans with Disabilities) Initiative
Speakers: Commissioner Christine Griffin, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, with Linda Carter Batiste, J.D., JAN
Session Description: Why isn´t your agency hiring individuals with targeted disabilities? (Especially when it is so easy!). EEOC´s lead initiative was launched to address the alarming decline in the number of individuals with severe disabilities employed in federal agencies. Through LEAD, it has become clear that, while many agency officials want to address this problem within their agency, they are not sure how to address it. Come learn the answer to that question during this informative session. Attendees will be provided with nuts and bolts information on the special hiring authorities and opportunities available for people with disabilities that officials can put to use immediately. Further, this session will provide information on how to quickly and effectively accommodate employees with disabilities at little or no cost!

Session Title: K-12 and Beyond: The Importance of Internships to Student with Disabilities and Businesses - Featuring Booz Allen Hamilton Emerging Leaders Internship Program as a Best Practice.
Speaker: Barbara Haight
Session Description: Januarys JAN/US BLN Webinar series features Barbara Haight, Senior Manager for Corporate Community Relations for Booz Allen Hamilton, a leading global consulting firm with more than 19,000 employees on six continents. Ms. Haight played a key leadership role in Booz Allen´s creation and implementation of the Emerging Leaders internship and leadership development program for college students with disabilities. She implemented the programs strategic expansion by bringing other corporations and nonprofits into the partnership. Barbara will speak on the importance and value of internships to career development of students with disabilities as well as to meeting the recruitment needs of businesses. The Emerging Leaders program will be discussed as one model for businesses to access students with disabilities. Barbara will also offer best practices for internship placements and other examples of business focused programs.

Session Description: Is something in the air affecting the performance of your workforce? A growing number of people are requesting workplace accommodations due to limitations associated with exposure to fragrances and chemicals. Employers are often faced with the challenges of determining if the worker has a disability as defined by the ADA, identifying appropriate reasonable accommodations, and deciding how far to go to implement an accommodation request that may impact other employees. Participate in this session to learn what JAN is hearing from employers; to discover chemical sensitivity-related workplace accommodations; and to get answers to the most common ADA questions on this topic.

The Florida Business Leadership Network (BLN) will offer the first in a series of FREE Webinars next month as an added benefit to its members and Florida employers. Join us on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. EST, for this informative Webinar: "Workplace Accommodations - Low Cost Solutions to Making Your Business Accessible for Employees with Disabilities".

The Webinar will be presented by Joan Altavilla, senior manager of the occupational safety and environmental health department for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. The presentation will offer information and resources about workplace accommodations, as well as share specific examples of accommodation measures taken by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. *The Webinar has been submitted to HRCI for review.
